Avengers: Endgame Could Have Given Ant-Man An Epic Moment In The Final Battle

Avengers: Endgame might have arrived back in April, but new information about the massive blockbuster has been steadily arriving in the months since it hit theaters. This has come through interviews with the directors and writers, special features on DVD/Blu-Ray and Disney+, as well as as the book Marvel's Avengers: Endgame - The Art of the Movie. And the newest revelation revealed an epic moment for Ant-Man in the film's final battle

The Russo Brothers methodically crafted Endgame's last battle, which united (almost) all of the heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A number of incarnations of that battle went through the movie's development, with plenty of ideas ending on the cutting room floor. New concept art reveals that Ant-Man could have brought an army of giant ants to the field, taking out the Chitauri Leviathans in the process. Check it out below.

FOMO alert. As if the final battle in the ruins of the Avengers Compound wasn't epic enough, it could have included giant insects fighting off Thanos' forces. Hopefully this type of ant army will pop up in a future installment in the MCU.

This new concept art comes to us from Reddit, and teases that Paul Rudd's Ant-Man could have had an even larger role in the final stand against Josh Brolin's signature villain. While Scott Lang had some cool moment and definitely got his hands dirty once the Avengers assembled, he didn't communicate with his trusty army of ants much. And he certainly didn't grow the likes of Ant-thony, Ant-tonio Banderas, and Ulysses S. Gr-ant into massive allies on the field. But it would have been awesome.

This is just the latest scrapped idea that has been revealed for Avengers: Endgame's epic final conflict. There were a ton of exciting concepts, but The Russo Brothers and the film's editors had to find which were the most valuable to move the movie's story forward. Additionally characters like Black Panther's Nakia could have made it into the film, and Sean Gunn's Kraglin got a battle in the air. Plus, Thanos almost got another additional fight scene during the film's Time Heist.

Clearly there were a ton of ideas for Avengers: Endgame, especially the film's third act. It was important for the blockbuster to stick the landing, and successfully follow-up on the success of Infinity War. The MCU as we knew it came to a conclusion with Endgame, with devastating character deaths marking the end of the Infinity Saga. So some of the exciting moments that were planned and given concept art failed to come to fruition.

It should be interesting to see what happens to Ant-Man in Phase Four and beyond. All signs point to Paul Rudd getting a third solo movie sometime in the future, reuniting him with Evangeline Lilly's Wasp and the rest of the cast. There are a ton of unanswered questions within the Ant-Man franchise, so hopefully it'll get the chance to flesh everything out. Hopefully with director Peyton Reed back in the director's chair.

The next installment in the MCU is Black Widow on May 1st, 2020. In the meantime, check out our 2019 release list to plan your next trip to the movies. And our 2020 release list to look ahead toward the New Year.
